TESTIMONIALS

Having worked with multiple composers in the past who don’t play a keyboard instrument as part of their musical background, it is more than obvious when looking at Emily’s works that she feels really comfortable writing for the piano. All the different pieces are immediately accessible and fit really well into the hand, as we pianists like to say.

Because I am also an organist, I had been looking for a long time to find a composer who writes well for the organ. When Emily showed me her master’s thesis, an organ concerto, I was absolutely blown away by her writing skills for the instrument. Not only does she know how to manage the tricky voicing when having multiple layers on the organ, she also has a great ear for suggesting the right stops. Her arrangements for organ and trombone have been a treat to practice and perform.

The collaboration has already been fruitful and I can’t wait to see what works Emily will write for us in the future!

I highly recommend working with Emily Horton. I've worked with her for the last four years and it is amazing what her collaboration has added to my, our, work. In performing, she never just plays the piano. She arranges and composes melodies that will only enhance your work and never distract from it. I worked with her on my musical and it was amazing what she did. Many composers would only help enhance their original work, but she went above and beyond, knowing that helping the whole would, in turn, help her part. Not only that, but she is truly in it for the good of the music, which is what every composer really wants and strives for. She will help make your music shine as if it was your own, as a performer and as an arranger.

Now, if you ask her to collaborate and compose with you, you've truly got something special. For my musical, she wrote one song and we collaborated on two others. The song she wrote was phenomenal and the songs we wrote together were some of my favorites. I like to think that we have a great chemistry, something that many writers look for but don't often find. However, I truly believe that she can work well with everyone. She has a great work ethic, a great attitude, and an amazing ear. Not only that, she is a great partner. I 10/10 recommend that you should hire her. My only hesitation is that she will have less time to collaborate with myself.

We met Emily through the recommendation of her composition teacher who is a mutual friend. In the beginning we didn’t really know exactly what to expect since we never met in person. The first conversations over the phone showed that she is a really open minded composer, which is crucial in this business. As an easy person to work with, she is open to dive into any kind of genre as an arranger, from Strauss, Holst to Paganini and even Michael Jackson. She is very versatile and extremely fast in her arranging process, always delivering high quality products.

As a trombonist you always look for works that lay well on the horn. That’s the reason why I have always collaborated with trombonists as my composers and arrangers in the past. But I have been positively surprised by her writing for the instrument. She chooses good key signatures that work well for the horn and gives my facial muscles enough rest in the works, a crucial point when writing for a brass instrument.

Emily was an absolute pleasure to work with. For a teaching project, I needed over 150 pages of music (everything from solo piano to full orchestral scores) transcribed in a very short amount of time. Emily not only completed the project on time, but the scores she produced were accurate, beautiful, and easy to read. She also communicated with me during the entire project, letting me know how things were going.

I would highly recommend Emily for any transcription or engraving work. She is reliable and great to work with.

My husband and I worked with Emily Horton as we planned for our wedding. We were planning a wedding on a quick timeline because one of my siblings announced a deployment. Emily was not only professional, but she was gracious and patient every step of the way. Emily is quick to respond to e-mails, texts, and phone calls, and she responds with articulation and professionalism that is often lost in our generation (I can say this because I too, qualify by age as a millennial). Emily was open to any ideas we had, but was also willing to provide suggestions. As we drew closer to the date, it was easy for us to give the reins to Emily and let her choose the songs herself. We had no qualms about letting her select music. Her passion for music as well as her integrity were quickly apparent. We checked that item off our list without thinking twice or looking back.

In addition to providing answers and support along our wedding planning journey, she was able to recommend a vocalist. We did not need to hear this vocalist in order to know that, if she was recommended by Emily, she would be excellent. We were not disappointed.

We were blessed through the process and opportunity of working with Emily, and would not change one aspect of any piece of the music. Based on the overwhelmingly positive response of our wedding guests (you know the music is good if people take time to comment on it) we knew it was not just our euphoria on our happy day that made the music so beautiful.

Emily Horton is just the best and here’s why:

In September 2018, my boyfriend of four years proposed and we began wedding planning. We planned our wedding date to be April 13, 2019. Knowing I had six months to plan, I went ahead and started getting vendors booked. Emily was one of the first people I reached out to for this. It was a very easy decision to ask for her on our big day because I was already confident in her pianist abilities. Of course she was there for me because that is just who she is. And if you have ever wedding planned, nothing means more than having a person you can count on. Man was I impressed. Not only did she prepare for our event by showing up early the day of for rehearsal, but she also helped give us the music we wanted by beautifully performing special requests we had AND she worked separately with our violinist to deliver a sweet rendition of Canon in D as I walked down the aisle.

Yes, she was a blessing to me during that time and I will always remember that.
